The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting, financial reporting, and analysis to ensure the integrity of financial information and compliance with governmental accounting standards. This role supports the Finance Director in managing the Pueblo West Metropolitan District’s financial operations, including budget preparation, audit support, capital project tracking, and financial system management. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers. Lead or assist in the year-end close process and preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Support the District’s annual audit process; work closely with external auditors to provide required documentation and explanations. Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the District’s annual operating and capital budgets. Maintain fixed asset records and oversee proper capitalization and depreciation schedules. Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and applicable state and local financial regulations. Prepare and submit required state and federal reports, including grant-related financials. Review and monitor financial transactions for accuracy and compliance with District policies. Provide financial analysis and support to departments for budget and planning purposes. Identify and recommend improvements to accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial reporting systems. Mentor and support junior finance staff in their professional development.
