About The Position

The Senior Accountant provides oversight and leadership to the accounts payable team while supporting the accounting function of Christian Care Ministry (CCM) and the programs the ministry administers. This role will be responsible for month-end financial close duties, including bank account and balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger analysis, fixed assets, expense amortization, and department budget variance analysis.

Requirements

  • Strong Excel and computer skills: ability to access, maintain, and effectively manage data in an RFP system. Ability to download large amounts of data and perform pivot table analysis in Excel.
  • Identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Proficiency with AP and expense software such as NetSuite or Bill.com
  • Ability to respond promptly to department needs and meeting commitments
  • Accounting skills – ability to maintain accurate financial reports, pay bills, maintain vendor tax and billing records, and run accurate and timely reports
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently
  • Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness in work, as well as monitor work to ensure quality.
  • Ability to apply feedback to improve performance.
  • Leadership skill – ability to provide coaching and constructive feedback to team members
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
  • Ability to follow instructions and the accounting policies and procedures
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with prior accounting and accounts payable experience in a corporate environment required, preferably in a financial services or healthcare payer industry
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience as a Senior Accountant
  • 2+ years of experience in an accounts payable role; preferably in a leadership role within a similar size and type of organization

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and reconcile complex bank accounts and investigate outstanding items to ensure timely adjustments
  • Analyze asset, liability, and capital accounts by compiling electronic data and required documentation
  • Prepare and distribute the daily cash balance report to Finance leadership
  • Assist in the preparation of budget and special reports
  • Perform monthly/year-to-date budget vs. actual analysis for assigned departments - acting as liaison between departmental owners and the finance department
  • Maintain fixed assets schedule, posting monthly depreciation and reconciling balances in a fixed asset module to balance sheet accounts
  • Maintain prepaid expense amortization schedules and reconciliations
  • Prepare and post journal entries and accruals as needed
  • Verify accuracy of new vendors created by non-AP staff
  • Analyze, prioritize, and code invoices and expense vouchers for accuracy and payment eligibility to ensure timely payments
  • Provide mentorship, coaching and leadership support of accounts payable team members
  • Reconcile executive credit card charges in Concur monthly as needed
  • Perform general ledger analysis to summarize the composition of each account
  • Prepare annual IRS 1099 reporting for contract labor
  • Process monthly expense reporting
  • Assist with audit preparation
  • Contribute to the exercise and expression of Christian Care Ministry’s Christian beliefs
  • All other duties as assigned
