About The Position

Our client is a well-established family office with over 15 years of experience acquiring and operating lower middle-market businesses across the United States and Canada. The firm focuses on businesses generating between $1M and $10M in EBITDA and currently owns approximately nine portfolio companies spanning multiple industries. This role will initially support three portfolio companies under the leadership of the CEO, with employee populations of approximately 20, 30, and 50 team members respectively. As the portfolio continues to grow, there will be opportunities for increased responsibility and exposure across additional entities. The businesses currently maintain individual bookkeeping resources at the operating company level. However, much of the accounting oversight, financial statement preparation, audit coordination, budgeting, and financial review work remains centralized with the CEO, creating a significant operational bottleneck. The organization is now seeking a highly capable Senior Accountant / Junior Controller to become the financial backbone across multiple entities and help establish a more disciplined, scalable accounting function. This is a hands-on accounting leadership role designed for a finance professional who can bridge the gap between day-to-day accounting execution and controller-level financial oversight. The successful candidate will take ownership of monthly and quarterly financial statement preparation, coordinate accounting activities across multiple companies, oversee external bookkeepers, and become the primary accounting resource for audits, reviews, and financial reporting. The client is specifically seeking someone who can remove financial statement preparation and accounting management responsibilities from the CEO, allowing leadership to focus on operating and growing the businesses rather than managing accounting processes. This role requires someone who is equally comfortable reviewing complex financial statements, cleaning up accounting discrepancies, managing auditor requests, and jumping into detailed accounting tasks such as reconciliations when necessary. The ideal candidate is not simply a reviewer but someone who enjoys ownership, accountability, and rolling up their sleeves to solve problems.
