About The Position

MillerMusmar CPAs, an award-winning CPA firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support its outsourced accounting services practice. This client-facing role is ideal for a professional with multiple years in a client-facing public or outsourced accounting environment. The position requires deep experience in full-cycle accounting, strong client communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple clients with varying service levels. Experience with government contractors and/or nonprofit organizations is highly valued. The Senior Accountant will work closely with Managers and Partners and serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 4–7 years of professional experience in public accounting or outsourced accounting
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial statement preparation
  • Experience working with multiple clients and managing competing deadlines
  • Proficiency with common accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online/Desktop)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with government contractors and/or nonprofit organizations
  • Familiarity with FAR Part 31, indirect cost concepts, or grant accounting
  • Strong understanding of accounting for payroll transactions
  • Experience with partnership accounting
  • CPA or CPA-eligible status
  • Experience working in a remote or hybrid public accounting environment
  • Experience with Unanet, Procas, or similar systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform full-cycle accounting services for assigned clients, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and month-end and quarter-end close processes.
  • Prepare internal-use financial statements.
  • Prepare and maintain high-quality workpapers and supporting schedules in accordance with public accounting and firm standards.
  • Identify discrepancies, cutoff issues, and posting errors and propose appropriate resolutions.
  • Support accounting for government contractors, including understanding indirect cost structures, labor allocations, assisting with timekeeping, invoicing, and compliance-related reporting, and advising on allowability of expenses under relevant FAR & CAS principles.
  • Support client DCAA compliance.
  • Support nonprofit clients, including fund accounting concepts, grant tracking, and restricted/unrestricted activity.
  • Assist with compliance-related filings and projects such as 1099 preparation, personal property tax, BPOL, or similar filings, audit support, special projects, and business registrations.
  • Serve as the day-to-day contact for assigned clients.
  • Communicate professionally and clearly with clients regarding accounting questions, document requests, and timing and deliverables.
  • Participate in and, over time, lead routine client calls related to accounting matters.
  • Build and maintain trusted, long-term client relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with Managers and Partners on workload planning and client deliverables.
  • Provide feedback to improve internal templates, processes, and documentation.
  • Assist in training or mentoring junior staff, as needed.
