Valvoline Global Operations Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. We prefer local candidates willing to work an in-office work schedule (3 days per week). The Senior Accountant supports accurate and timely accounting operations and financial reporting for Valvoline’s consolidated entities. This role plays a key role in monthly close activities, account reconciliations, and compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and monthly and quarterly financial reporting. As a skilled contributor within the finance organization, the Senior Accountant collaborates across functions to ensure financial data integrity and compliance. The role requires technical accounting expertise, strong analytical skills, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • 3–6 years of relevant accounting experience in corporate or public accounting
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control principles
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial close tools (e.g., Blackline)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting platforms
  • Self-motivated with a collaborative and solution-oriented approach
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule with approximately 3 days/week in the Lexington office

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification preferred or actively pursuing
  • Experience working with the ERP system SAP/S4 is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations for month-end and quarter-end close processes.
  • Analyze variances and investigate discrepancies to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with the consolidation of global entities and preparation of financial reports.
  • Prepare internal financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual stand-alone financials for review and audit.
  • Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
  • Support internal and external audit requests and implement recommendations.
  • As needed, research specific uncertain accounting issues and document Valvoline’s considerations and accounting treatment conclusion.
  • Manage internal accounting policies and provide supporting documentation.
  • Applies a strong foundation in accounting principles to ensure accurate and compliant reporting.
  • Maintain documentation and execution of key SOX/ICFR controls.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to automation initiatives.
  • Support system enhancements and financial tools implementation.
  • Collaborate with commercial finance, supply chain, and other teams to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Assist in accounting for intercompany transactions, joint ventures, and new business initiatives.
  • Act as a resource for junior team members by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Support the Accounting Manager in special projects and ad hoc analyses.
