About The Position

Caleres is seeking a detail-oriented accounting professional to join its Finance team in St. Louis, Missouri. The Senior Accountant, Retail Accounting supports monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to wholesale accounting activities and prepares financial reporting and analysis for business and leadership decision-making. The role performs reconciliations and balance sheet analyses in accordance with GAAP, company policies, and SOX requirements, and reviews accruals, liabilities, and expense accounts for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate documentation.

The position analyzes actual results against forecasts and budgets, explains key variances, and provides timely financial analysis and reporting as business needs change. It works with accounting, finance, IT, FP&A, and business leaders on reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and operational decisions, while supporting close activities across the organization and contributing to mentoring, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
• 3–5 years of public accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with ERP platforms such as SAP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to wholesale accounting activities.
• Prepare financial reporting and analysis to support business and leadership decision-making.
• Perform account reconciliations and balance sheet analyses in accordance with GAAP, company policies, and SOX requirements.
• Review accruals, liabilities, and expense accounts to ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation.
• Analyze actual results against forecasts and budgets, identifying and explaining key variances.
• Provide timely financial analysis and reporting in response to changing business needs.
• Collaborate with accounting, finance, IT, FP&A, and business leaders to support financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and operational decision-making.
• Provide financial analysis and close-cycle support across the organization.
