About The Position

As a Senior Accountant in our Audit & Assurance team, you will play a key role in managing and executing engagements for private, owner-managed businesses. This position involves planning and completing complex assignments, mentoring junior team members, and delivering high-quality client service. You will apply technical expertise, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to building strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • CPA designation or in the final stages of pursuing CPA certification.
  • 2–4 years of experience working with private, owner-managed businesses in public accounting.
  • Solid foundation in financial accounting and Canadian tax principles.
  • Experience preparing Canadian personal and corporate income tax returns.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Computer software proficiency in Caseware and Tax Prep
  • Commitment to delivering quality client service.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to resolve complex challenges.
  • Proven engagement management capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute notice-to-reader and review engagements, including preparation of financial statements in accordance with ASPE standards.
  • Prepare and review Canadian personal and trust tax returns.
  • Understand client businesses, identify issues, and recommend improvements.
  • Produce clear, concise reports for review by engagement managers.
  • Apply technical knowledge and research to develop client and firm recommendations.
  • Anticipate engagement risks and implement appropriate solutions in collaboration with managers.
  • Train, mentor, and provide feedback to junior team members to support their development.
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by junior accountants for accuracy.
  • Perform analyses and prepare account reconciliations as required.
  • Build strong client relationships and respond promptly to requests.
  • Communicate effectively with partners, managers, and other team members to ensure client expectations are met.
  • Identify new business opportunities within existing client relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and firm policies.
  • Coordinate complex accounting projects and collaborate with other departments as needed.
