About The Position

This role offers the opportunity to become a key member of a small, high-performing tax department within a public insurance company. The Senior Accountant supports a wide range of tax compliance and accounting activities, including premium tax, assessments, and income tax, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The position combines complex Excel-based calculations, general ledger work, and ASC 740 income tax provision support, with exposure to both GAAP and statutory accounting.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience withing internal/industry full cycle accounting.
  • Experience with ASC 740 income tax provisions for public companies.
  • Degree in Accounting or Finance. (must have)
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end processes.
  • Hands-on experience with tax compliance and filings, including corporate tax and related reporting. (Must have)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly advanced Excel skills (complex formulas and calculations).
  • Experience with general ledger software.
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-sensitive environment, managing multiple priorities and frequent due dates.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather, interpret, and synthesize data from diverse systems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply state tax regulations and instructions accurately.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Tax is highly desirable.
  • Experience in public accounting for organizations with revenue of $150-$500M. (Must have)

  • Familiarity with quarterly and annual tax provision processes under both GAAP and statutory accounting.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain detailed schedules, workpapers, and documentation.
  • Proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement of tax department methods and procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate across finance and tax functions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare periodic premium tax and assessment filings, using complex calculations and formulas in Excel to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Gather, analyze, and synthesize data from multiple and diverse systems to support tax filings, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Organize, document, and maintain schedules and workpapers that support filings and payments, ensuring they are clear, complete, and easily referenceable.
  • Maintain an individual calendar for assigned areas and manage work to meet frequent and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Perform complex general ledger entries and reconciliations related to premium tax and assessments.
  • Assist in the preparation of federal, state, and local income tax compliance, including returns and supporting schedules.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions under GAAP and statutory (STAT) accounting, including account reconciliations and deferred tax analyses.
  • Assist with annual return-to-provision adjustments and intercompany settlements, ensuring accurate and timely entries and documentation.
  • Independently research, locate, interpret, and apply state regulations and instructions as needed to support tax positions and filings.
  • Learn, apply, and continuously improve tax department methods and procedures, contributing to process enhancements and best practices.
