About The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the Bank’s accounting operations, regulatory reporting, and internal control processes. This position ensures the integrity of the general ledger, assists with monthly and quarterly financial closes, supports tax and audit activities, and prepares financial reporting used by Executive Management.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, banking‑related accounting concepts, and financial statement presentation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, indexing).
  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify variances, and provide meaningful explanations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Self‑driven with strong ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • 5+ years of accounting and/or financial reporting experience, preferably in a bank or financial institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or 5 years of experience in lieu of degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in bank accounting, including familiarity with Call Reports.
  • Corporate tax or tax provision experience.
  • Experience with Jack Henry Silverlake or similar core banking systems.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools (Cognos, Power BI) and budgeting software (Oracle EPM).
  • Ability to design and improve complex spreadsheets, templates, and reporting tools.
  • CPA license or active CPA candidate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, variance analysis, and financial statement support.
  • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring proper classification in accordance with GAAP and bank‑specific accounting policies.
  • Manage fixed asset and prepaid accounting, including capitalization, project tracking, depreciation/amortization schedules, and reconciliation of related subledgers.
  • Review and approve invoices, reimbursements, and expense classifications for accuracy and policy compliance.
  • Assist with preparation of internal monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for Executive Management, Board committees, and business units.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for regulatory reporting (e.g., Call Report schedules), working closely with the Controller’s office to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Respond to audit requests (internal, external, regulatory) and prepare detailed supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules related to shared services, cost allocations, intercompany transactions, and other bank‑specific operating activities.
  • Provide ad‑hoc financial analyses to support operational and strategic decision‑making.
  • Assist in calculating and recording income tax provisions, deferred taxes, and estimated payments.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for federal and state tax filings and audits.
  • Support the annual budgeting process and periodic financial forecasts.
  • Prepare trend analyses on key income and expense categories.
  • Maintain budgeting templates related to depreciation, amortization, recurring expenses, and other financial assumptions.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory guidance, and internal accounting policies.
  • Support internal controls, including documentation, testing, and remediation of control gaps.
  • Assist with development and implementation of improved accounting policies, workflows, and automation to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintain awareness of banking regulations and accounting standards impacting financial reporting.
  • Complies with all State and Federal Banking regulatory requirements, including but not limited to: BSA, Anti-Money Laundering OFAC, CIP, Financial Elder Abuse Reporting, Sexual Harassment, Information Security and privacy requirements.
  • This position will elevate suspicious activity to supervisory staff and/or BSA department.
  • Completes compliance and other technical training workshops as assigned.
