About The Position

Vault Consulting is seeking a Senior Accountant to provide outsourced accounting services to multiple nonprofit clients. The role primarily focuses on month-end close work, financial statement preparation, and client interactions. The Senior Accountant is a full-time, benefited Vault employee who works as a consultant for client engagements. Vault provides onboarding, professional development, and ongoing training to help employees stay current with industry best practices. Applicants outside the immediate Washington, D.C., area may be considered for full-time remote work, with potential occasional visits to the McLean, Virginia headquarters for meetings and training or events.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience.
• Two to four years of experience in public accounting, auditing, corporate accounting, or nonprofit accounting.
• Excellent Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Passion and commitment to providing quality client service and guidance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate confidently, build trust in professional expertise, and work as a trusted advisor and team member across multiple client engagements.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment, take initiative, and drive projects forward with minimal direction.

Nice To Haves

• Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA license in progress.
• Not-for-profit industry experience.
• Familiarity with commercial accounting software packages, including Sage Intacct and QuickBooks.

Responsibilities

• Provide outsourced accounting services for multiple clients.
• Oversee client and engagement accounts payable and receivables functions.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist the engagement supervisor with the production and review of monthly financial statements.
• Interface with external auditors to prepare audit and Form 990 support schedules.
• Communicate directly with clients about engagement matters.
• Interface with external vendors and banking or finance institutions.
