About The Position

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking a motivated Senior Accountant to join its fiscal team. This role involves close collaboration with the Accounting Manager to ensure the accuracy of revenues and expenditures, support financial reporting, conduct data analysis, and review/approve WOLFS documents. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, enjoys problem-solving, and contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of financial processes. Requirements

  • Knowledge of federal regulations related to grants/programs at the State and Federal levels
  • Working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing daily responsibilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of the department's fiscal team
  • 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accountant OR Bachelor's Degree (typically in Finance) with 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accountant

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with WOLFS is preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Reviews payments submitted by accounting staff to ensure budget coding, allocations, and object/sub-object classification are accurate.
  • Assists staff with corrections and ensures timely processing of payments.
  • Serves as a primary resource for accounting staff, responding to questions, providing guidance on fiscal processes and procedures, and supporting daily communication.
  • Provides training and support to new and existing fiscal staff and assists in coordinating the payment entry process.
  • Maintains accurate financial data within specialized accounting systems and WOLFS.
  • Completes monthly reconciliations between WOLFS and specialized accounting systems, making corrections as necessary.
  • Assists with budget and expenditure analysis.
  • Supports p-card processing and daily payment approval/vouchers by preparing spreadsheets, assisting accountants, and serving as backup support for contract encumbrance processes.
  • Assists with special projects, research, data collection, compilation, and analysis as requested by the accounting manager.
