About The Position

Fireworks is seeking a hands-on, high-ownership GL Lead to help build and scale its accounting foundation. This role is ideal for a candidate with approximately 5 years of experience, preferably a recent Senior from Big 4, who is looking to transition into an operating role and take ownership of core accounting processes. The candidate will play a critical role in establishing scalable processes, supporting financial reporting, and partnering cross-functionally as the company grows. This position requires someone who is comfortable working in ambiguity, moves quickly, and is excited to build from the ground up. The company is also looking for someone who is interested in leveraging automation and AI tools to improve efficiency, reduce manual work, and enhance the accuracy of financial processes. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting.

Requirements

  • ~5 years of experience in accounting or audit; Big 4 experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CPA-eligible preferred.
  • Strong foundation in U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Ability to take ownership and work independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Hands-on mindset with willingness to execute.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience with Excel; familiarity with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to partner cross-functionally.

  • Exposure to system implementations, process automation, or data analytics.
  • Experience supporting audits.
  • Interest in or experience with automation, data tools, or AI-driven workflows is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own key areas of the month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Lead PBC requests associated with Direct and Indirect tax
  • Build and improve accounting processes, documentation, and controls in a fast-evolving environment.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage accounting for key areas such as prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, and cash.
  • Support financial reporting, including preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Partner cross-functionally (FP&A, Operations, Legal, Tax) to ensure accurate and timely financial data.
  • Assist with external audits, including preparing PBCs and responding to auditor requests.
  • Identify process gaps and drive automation and efficiency improvements using tools such as Excel, scripts, and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Leverage AI tools to streamline repetitive tasks and enhance reporting insights.
  • Support implementation and optimization of accounting systems and tools.
  • Take on ad hoc projects and special initiatives as the business scales.
