About The Position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for processing billing documents to various PHMC funders. This position will review and analyze monthly departmental and program budget reports to determine the accuracy of data in relation to PHMC’s policies and procedures, along with cost principles of PHMC’s various funders.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with electronic data reporting and retrieval, email, and web-based applications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to present oral and written reports to senior staff and program staff
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Technical and professional accounting skills
  • Ability to develop financial and other operational systems
  • Familiarity with processing purchase orders, negotiating discounts with vendors, and ensuring that funders’ bid requirements and other requirements are met
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize work
  • Strong general ledger skills; ability to analyze accounts and create journal entries
  • Ability to perform bank reconciliations
  • Understanding of budgeting and financial statement preparation and analysis
  • Understanding of cost allocation systems; ability to allocate costs over multiple programs
  • Familiarity with accounts receivable subsidiary ledgers
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all funders
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • Must have at least 3 years of accounting experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in using Microsoft Dynamics NAV and/or Jet Reports
  • Knowledge of the City of Philadelphia’s reimbursement system

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and reconcile monthly, quarterly, and annual billing reports and invoices.
  • Prepare actual expenses vs. approved budget reports for program directors.
  • Prepare program budgets and assist in the preparation of the corporate budget.
  • Correspond with funders regarding fiscal guidelines and discrepancies.
  • Provide advice and financial technical assistance to program staff.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts as needed.
  • Review, research, and resolve billing issues and discrepancies.
  • Oversee maintenance of account files, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Work with funders to ensure that PHMC is paid in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
