Position Overview The Senior Accountant position creates financial transactions and creates financial reports from that information, but is also responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Senior Accountant also reconciles accounts to ensure their accuracy and completeness. The Senior Accountant acts as a mentor for more junior accounting staff. In addition, the Senior Accountant assists with establishing policies and procedures for purchasing and financial reporting and helps maintain the company’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) 404 compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
  • 3+ years of experience in public accounting or in a corporate accounting role.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.
  • Big 4 audit experience.
  • Experience with SAP, OneStream and Databricks.
  • Life Sciences industry knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures that are in compliance with applicable government regulations; including, but not limited to, SOX, GAAP, International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation (IFRS).
  • Lead and execute key aspects of the month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial statement close process, including data gathering and account analysis, and ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Independently prepare complex journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation and maintain accounting records in compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Actively support SOX compliance, including performing and documenting control activities and identifying control gaps or improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure proper accounting treatment of business activities.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
  • Provide guidance, training, and informal review support to Associate and Staff Accountants.
  • Monitor industry/regulatory changes with respect to accounting standards adopted by the company and develop new processes and policies to accommodate accordingly.
  • Ability to perform accounting research and prepare detailed accounting analysis to arrive at proposal of accounting treatment.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as cross-functionally with teams across the organization to take on new tasks with high level of difficulty.
  • Work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his/her work product; Will work closely with all major functional leaders of the company.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
  • Support annual internal and external financial statement audits, responding to inquiries, and explaining accounting conclusions.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
  • Provide back-up and assigned duties for other members of the finance team.
  • Contribute to department and organization special projects, as assigned.
  • Respond to routine internal inquiries and provide support to cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact, coordinate, and communicate effectively with internal staff and external vendors.
