About The Position

The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Controller, Finance and be responsible for full accounting cycle, period end closing, and preparation of financial statements for four legal entities. This role ensures the financial results are prepared and recorded in accordance with the appropriate accounting principles and guidelines. The Senior Accountant will also be assisting in maintaining and enhancing the organization’s internal controls, finance policies & procedures and the ERP system.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or related field.
  • A professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) completed or in progress.
  • Good knowledge of fund accounting and property management.
  • 4+ years of relevant hand-on full accounting cycle and/or audit experience with track record to execute and deliver in a complex environment.
  • Strong accounting foundation, including knowledge of relevant accounting frameworks.
  • Analyzing and integrate multiple data sources into decision format, interpret data, identify issues / opportunities and help implement solutions.
  • Strong analytical skill and critical thinking to present financial information in concise meaningful ways and passionate about data-driven discussions leveraging technology.
  • Strong interpersonal and written & verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams/departments.
  • Big picture thinker while paying attention to details.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar and working experience with Oracle NetSuite (or equivalent ERP system) and Power BI would be an asset.
  • Experience in working in non-profit and charity organizations would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings, journal entries, account reconciliations, inter- and intra-entity transactions, cost allocations, ensuring strict adherence to relevant policies, procedures, accounting standards, and regulations.
  • Be the prime owner of fixed assets management, inventory management, and project costing.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of consolidated and unconsolidated financial reports, complete with well-organized working papers.
  • Provide oversight and support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional departments to ensure precise and compliant recording of financial transactions.
  • Coordinate and assist with year-end external audit activities and requests.
  • Maintain compliance with financial governance requirements and all applicable federal and provincial taxes relevant to charity and Not-For-Profit organizations.
  • Support forecasting and budgeting activities in partnership with the Financial and Planning team.
  • Assist in identifying and management financial risks.
  • Maintain Oracle NetSuite financial system and liaise with IT for issue management.
  • Provide support for the continued development of a leading customer service model, working in partnership with departments across the organization while creating a positive culture for continuous improvement through the problem-solving process by identifying alternatives and making recommendations.
  • Provide support and backup to other members of the Finance team.
  • Uphold financial security by diligently following internal control procedures.
  • Adhere to all UGM published policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Perform other duties and special project as assigned, including but not limited to ERP system implementation, digital transformation initiatives, processes documentation and implementation of policies & procedures.
