About The Position

Opolo Wines, LP is seeking a Senior Accountant to perform and support key accounting functions for their wine production business. This role ensures accuracy, transparency, and financial/data integrity in adherence to GAAP and industry-related regulatory compliance. The Senior Accountant will provide managerial oversight for the accounting team and act as a liaison between the team and upper management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • At least 2–3 years in cost accounting, preferably within the wine/beverage, or manufacturing industries.
  • Proficiency in GL management, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with production/inventory costing within the wine, food, or agricultural sector.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar) and advanced Excel.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Astute time management, attention to detail, accuracy, analytical, organizational, planning, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work effectively alone and within a collaborative team environment.
  • Passion for the wine industry and environmental sustainability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Vintrace and Commerce 7.
  • Familiarity with TTB regulations, excise taxes, and winery-specific practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle general ledger activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes.
  • Lead cost accounting for wine production, tracking and allocating costs for estate grapes, bulk wine, barrel aging, bottling, and finished goods; calculate variances and overhead.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and reconciliations for vineyard fruit, cellar stock, and case goods, ensuring proper valuation under GAAP and TTB compliance.
  • Analyze production costs, inventory reserves, and variances, providing actionable reports to winemaking, vineyard, and leadership teams.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, pricing decisions, and excise tax filings (federal and state).
  • Collaborate with production, winemaking, and vineyard teams to refine costing processes and improve data accuracy in sustainable, estate-driven operations.
  • Assist with audits, process improvements, and special projects.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative, dynamic, family-oriented work environment.
