Senior Accouting

King OceanSweetwater, FL
Onsite

About The Position

King Ocean Services is a family-owned ocean freight transportation company with over 40 years of proven expertise connecting the United States with ports throughout Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Operating from Port Everglades, Florida, we provide weekly cargo services including Full Container Load (FCL), Less-than-Container Load (LCL), refrigerated cargo, vehicles, heavy machinery, and project cargo. Our modern fleet, C-TPAT, BASC, and ISO certifications, and deeply customer-centric culture have established us as a leader in intra-Americas maritime shipping. Following our 2024 strategic acquisition of Seacor Island Lines, King Ocean continues to grow its regional footprint and invest in the people and systems that support our mission. The Senior Accountant is a core contributor to King Ocean’s Accounting & Finance team, reporting initially to the Corporate Controller. This role owns a broad range of general ledger and financial reporting responsibilities across multiple legal entities — including monthly close, multi-entity bank reconciliations, journal entry preparation, and review of foreign agent activity across the company’s Central American, South American, and Caribbean network. The Senior Accountant will partner closely with the Controller on financial statement preparation, audit support, and the company’s transition to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365FO) later this year. As the Accounting & Finance team grows, the reporting structure for this role may evolve, offering meaningful opportunities for career progression.

  • Experience in a multi-entity environment is strongly preferred; multi-currency or international agent accounting experience is a meaningful advantage.

Working knowledge of additional ERP and accounting platforms (e.g., Sage 50, QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP) is valued.
  • Experience supporting external audits and preparing audit workpapers and schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, CMA, or active progress toward CPA certification is a strong plus; Master’s in Accounting or related field is an additional plus.
  • Experience in transportation, shipping, logistics, freight forwarding, or maritime industry is a meaningful advantage.

  • Apply incoming checks and wire transfers and update billing balances for assigned entities and revenue streams.
  • Prepare and electronically file recurring tax returns, including Florida Department of Revenue sales/use tax filings and other state and local tax obligations as assigned.
  • Help maintain and continuously improve accounting policies, standard operating procedures, and internal controls in alignment with U.S. GAAP.
  • Partner with AP, AR, Operations, and foreign agency teams to resolve accounting questions, and support the Controller in mentoring and training junior accounting and AP staff.
