Capitol Broadcasting Company IncRaleigh, NC

About The Position

Capitol Broadcasting Company is seeking a full-time Senior Accountant for Corporate Finance and Accounting. The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in the integrity of the general ledger across CBC’s business units - owning treasury and cash reconciliation, payroll and benefits accounting, month-end close support, and the audit deliverables that depend on them. This individual serves as a key partner to the Assistant Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager, and BU finance leaders, providing accurate reconciliations, clear account analysis, and the disciplined, repeatable process behind both recurring deliverables and the annual audit cycle. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and process skills and the ability to run recurring close cycles with precision. This role requires a proactive, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as collaboratively to support the Assistant Corporate Controller, the broader Corporate F&A team, the VP Finance, and the CFO. A builder at heart, this person reaches for AI first - using tools like Claude to automate recurring reconciliations, accelerate account analysis, and build documented, scalable systems that eliminate manual work and elevate the entire Corporate Accounting function’s capacity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 150 credit hours completed or in progress, consistent with North Carolina CPA licensure requirements.
  • 2-4 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in public accounting/audit.
  • Strong technical accounting foundation (GAAP) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing audit support materials and communicating directly with external auditors.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; sound judgment, with a willingness to escalate and ask questions as independence develops.
  • Experience across multiple clients, industries, or business units, reflecting comfort working in a diversified organization.
  • Exposure to fixed asset accounting, treasury/cash processes, or payroll accounting, even if only from an audit/testing perspective.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior exposure to ERP systems generally (Oracle Fusion a plus but not required — training provided).
  • CPA license or actively pursuing/eligible to sit for the CPA exam, preferred.
  • Experience developing automated tools, templates, or AI-assisted accounting processes is a plus.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity environment with intercompany activity and cost allocations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own daily cash management activity - transaction review, coding, and entry across various bank accounts and entities
  • Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations, clearing outstanding and unreconciled items on a defined schedule
  • Monitor daily cash positioning and support recurring cash reporting for the Assistant Corporate Controller and VP Finance
  • Prepare and post journal entries for payroll and payroll-related benefits across all pay cycles and entities
  • Reconcile payroll and benefit liability accounts monthly - accrued wages, PTO, employer taxes, insurance, and 401(k) - and resolve variances with [Payroll/HR]
  • Review payroll registers for coding accuracy, cost center assignment, and entity allocation
  • Maintain the documentation supporting payroll and benefit plan balances for audit
  • Own assigned close tasks and deliver them on the published close calendar
  • Prepare monthly accruals, prepaid amortization, and recurring entries, including intercompany allocations
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliation on assigned balance sheet accounts, with workpapers that stand on their own
  • Analyze month-end fixed asset activity and reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the trial balance on a consolidated basis
  • Review transaction detail for coding accuracy and process reclassifications as needed
  • Support the FP&A team with variance research and commentary on operating expense accounts
  • Provide AR support for various business units - monthly invoicing, payment application, and account follow-up
  • Own assigned sections of the annual audit - prepare PBC schedules, respond to requests, and communicate directly with internal and external partners
  • Support annual benefit plan audits, including coordination with external stakeholders
  • Support monthly tax filings and the related reconciliations as assigned
  • Maintain and improve desk procedures for owned processes so they are documented, repeatable, and transferable
  • Use Oracle Fusion ERP as the day-to-day system of record and support ERP and Smart View report development
  • Prototype and deploy AI-assisted automations across reconciliation, close, and audit prep, turning manual, repetitive work into documented, repeatable systems
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Corporate Controller, Accounting Manager, VP Finance, and CFO on various projects as needed
