About The Position

The Ocean Foundation, a DC-based non-profit international community foundation, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team. This role supports the operational effectiveness of a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving ocean environments globally. The Senior Accountant will perform standard accounting and financial tasks including processing accounts payable, recording deposits, reconciling bank and balance sheet accounts, and sending monthly programmatic financial reports. The ideal candidate will work efficiently with accuracy, possess meticulous attention to detail, have superb organization skills, and exercise critical thinking with a solid understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • Strong Excel and accounting systems skills
  • Substantial experience with federal grant compliance, cost allocation methodologies, and reporting required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and operate independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and accountability
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
  • Must reside in the DC, MD and VA area

Nice To Haves

  • CMA or CMA-track strongly preferred
  • Experience preferably within a nonprofit, grant-funded, or multi-entity environment
  • Progressive Nonprofit or grant accounting experience preferred
  • Funder, governmental, and compliance reporting preferred
  • Experience working within an internationally operating organization preferred
