About The Position

Evan Butchen CPA is a boutique tax and accounting firm serving individuals and small businesses with a focus on personalized service, clarity, and thoughtful guidance. Our clients value not just accurate work, but insight they can use to make decisions. We’re seeking a Senior Accountant - Tax & Client Advisory who goes beyond preparing returns and financials to help clients understand what their numbers mean and how to use them to make better decisions. This role is ideal for a proactive problem-solver with strong client communication skills who is comfortable owning client relationships and providing thoughtful, practical guidance. You’ll work across a variety of tax and accounting scenarios in a collaborative boutique firm environment, with the opportunity to grow professionally. This position is initially full-time and in-office at our Princeton, NJ location, with the option to transition to a hybrid schedule once fully established in the role. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys explaining financial results to clients and helping them plan, not just reporting outcomes.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in tax and accounting within a public accounting or small firm environment
  • Strong foundation in tax preparation with the ability to analyze and interpret financials
  • Comfort working from financials prepared by others and assessing their quality
  • Strong client communication skills, especially when explaining financial results
  • Proactive mindset with sound judgment and problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and Online
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual and business tax returns with minimal supervision
  • Review and evaluate financials prepared by bookkeepers and third parties
  • Use financial statements to help clients understand performance, cash flow, and outcomes
  • Proactively communicate with clients regarding financial results, tax implications, and planning considerations
  • Identify issues, trends, and red flags and raise them with clients clearly and professionally
  • Take ownership of client relationships in a small-firm environment
  • Review and provide guidance on work completed by junior staff
  • Assist with client onboarding and maintaining organized, accurate records
  • Utilize Canopy, QuickBooks Desktop and Online, and Microsoft Teams
