About The Position

The Senior Grants Accountant position supports the operations of the College's Grants Accounting department. Under limited supervision, the senior grant accountant is responsible for completing award and project billings and financial reporting in accordance with the contract award terms and conditions. This position reports and acts as a backup to the Assistant Director of Grants Accounting who is responsible for regularly interacting with grant managers, project directors, principal investigators, and the office of Resource Development and Sponsored programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting.
  • Six years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with accounting software and financial management systems.
  • Strong skills in spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel.
  • In-depth functional knowledge and expertise in the area of specialization and general knowledge of related areas in the College
  • Ability to perform complex administrative analysis with only general supervision
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills used appropriately influence the decision-making of individuals and groups at all levels in the College
  • Ability to plan and manage own workflow, priorities, and results accomplishment
  • Requires the ability to present and disseminate data to various levels
  • Requires advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments i.e., Microsoft Office Products and specialized computer systems
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with employee and student populations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in grants/contracts/accounting in higher education setting preferred.
  • Workday experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with setting up grant awards and grant budgets and maintains up-to-date electronic files of all contracts, awards, and grants
  • Ensures that grants and contract funding are allocated and expended appropriately and analyzes budget spending rates; forecasts year-end expenditures and fulfills financial reporting requirements
  • Prepares and submits monthly and quarterly invoices to funders and other stakeholders.
  • Assists Grants, project managers, and directors in performing account maintenance, including creating journal entries for cost transfers, facilities, and administration (overhead) cost adjustments and overages due to account reconciliation and close-out.
  • Assists in the completion of the annual single audit reports on federal awards
  • Provides input and participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for grants accounting and compliance; and provides training to stakeholders to improve processes and functionality.
  • Assists with the College's ERP system's maintenance and testing – Workday and any web applications pertaining to award management.
  • Assists with reviewing, reporting, analyzing, and interpreting complex grants-related accounting information and monitoring compliance with sponsor and regulatory, GAAP, and College policies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
