About The Position

BioMarin is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the full lifecycle of fixed asset, CAPEX, and selected OPEX accounting. This role combines hands-on accounting ownership with frequent partnership across project teams, budget owners, FP&A, audit, and other business functions. It is well suited for someone who can translate accounting requirements into clear, practical guidance and build productive working relationships across departments. Collaboration is central to this role. You will proactively communicate status, explain accounting conclusions in business-friendly language, ask effective follow-up questions, and keep stakeholders aligned on deadlines, open items, and decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, including 3+ years focused on fixed assets and/or CAPEX.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, including capitalization rules and depreciation methodologies.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets.
  • Experience with a major ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or a similar platform.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, collaborate across departments, and drive follow-through on open items.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, transfers, impairments, and depreciation.
  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger and ensure alignment with the general ledger.
  • Perform monthly close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, rollforwards, and variance analysis.
  • Review asset classifications for consistency with US GAAP and company policy.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audit requests related to fixed assets.
  • Partner with project managers to monitor capital project spend and assess capitalization versus expense treatment.
  • Monitor Asset Under Construction balances and drive timely project closures and asset placements in service.
  • Assist with depreciation and CAPEX impact forecasting for FP&A and business partners.
  • Apply capitalization policies consistently and help improve related processes.
  • Perform monthly OPEX purchase order reviews for commitments, coding, and alignment with budget expectations.
  • Prepare and analyze OPEX accruals to support complete and accurate period-end expense recognition.
  • Work with budget owners to investigate variances and communicate clear insights into key drivers and trends.
  • Monitor open POs and goods or services receipts to assess expense timing and identify cleanup or closure needs.
  • Support monthly OPEX reporting, including variance commentary for FP&A and business partners.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over fixed asset and CAPEX processes.
  • Support SOX documentation, testing, and remediation activities.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen reporting, and improve data integrity.
  • Contribute to system enhancements or ERP projects affecting fixed asset accounting.
  • Build trusted relationships with project managers, budget owners, FP&A, audit, and accounting partners.
  • Communicate accounting requirements and conclusions clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.
  • Proactively surface risks, missing information, and timeline concerns before they affect the close or project milestones.
  • Lead follow-ups with clear ownership and next steps, while maintaining a responsive and service-oriented approach.
  • Balance technical accuracy with practical execution in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
