About The Position

Perform complex accounting functions requiring minimal supervision and a thorough knowledge of general accounting methods, principles, and practices and a broad understanding of the company’s business units. Utilize accounting and financial principles and techniques associated with advanced accounting and develop and implement solutions to daily accounting issues where procedures may not be well defined. Provide directions to department staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in Accounting, Finance or other complimentary discipline.
  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible post college accounting experience required.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with both internal coworkers and external contacts.
  • Solid understanding of MS Excel and strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous insurance industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile and analyze financial information utilized by Accountants and Accounting Analysts to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
  • Examine and perform analysis on a variety of financial information and documents for completeness, accuracy and conformance with accounting requirements. Prepare projections and determine trends on accounting data to show effects on income and financial condition.
  • Perform statistical analysis to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes in financial statements, budgets, or tax returns, and write narrative reports explaining findings.
  • Identify accounting problems, independently research solutions and forms conclusions to present to management or appropriate party. Determine proper handling of financial transactions and approve transactions.
  • Monitor compliance with statutory accounting principles, generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures. Review, investigate and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports.
  • Prepare monthly department reports for management and assist with department-wide projects.
  • Review and/or prepares premium tax estimated deposits and annual returns, guaranty associations, other state assessments, survey and fees, city taxes, and other miscellaneous state surveys and fees for CSO and subsidiary companies.
  • Review work of Accountants to ensure integrity of all financial data.
  • Interact with other department members to resolve problems and inquiries and to allow for efficient data and information flow.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and assist in financial audits.
