About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Financial Reporting, the Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting is responsible for maintaining an effective system of accounting, budgeting, reporting and financial analysis. Requirements

  • 4-6 years accounting experience Required
  • Knowledge of GAAP Required
  • Proficient with personal computers.
  • Knowledge of Excel required.
  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Upon Hire
  • Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Accounting knowledge and experience with SAP or similar ERP system strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with GASB desired.
  • Good oral and written communications skills are necessary.
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Preferred Master's Degree or graduate level accounting courses
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates month-end close schedules and is responsible for the accurate and timely closing of the general ledger. Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of all subsidiary ledgers including general ledger, inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, deferred revenues, prepaid expenses, and debt service.
  • Assists in monthly and annual financial statements and reports. Ensures financial reporting is compliant with GASB and generally accepted accounting principles. Develops and maintains all GASB 34 financial reporting.
  • Produces periodic variance analysis. Provides explanations for actual versus budget variances. Prepares and distributes the monthly departmental Budget vs Actual Reports.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the SAP system; primarily responsible for FI/CO and Project Systems modules; secondary responsible for Sales and Distribution, Plant Maintenance and Materials Management modules and related integration testing.
  • Coordinates the audit and single audit activities with the external auditors and GPA accounting staff. Prepares audit schedules, observes inventory counts, and researches auditor questions. Assists in the preparation of the Management, Discussion, and Analysis and the audited financial statements which are included in the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
  • Manages all accounting and reporting related policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the preparation of Operating, Cash and Capital budgets.
  • Assists with the compilation and timely submission of State Accounting Office year-end data requests.
  • Assists with preparation of annual 1099 and Section 1042 reporting in compliance with IRS regulations. Help ensure Accounts Payable personnel obtain proper W-9 and W-8 information and that SAP vendor master records are current per GPA policy.
  • Prepares quarterly grant report for Federal and State agencies. Ensures accuracy, compliance and completeness of reporting grant expenditures and commitments. Works closely with GPA Grants Manager and reviews Grants Budget.
  • Provides backup capability for Administrative Assistant to creating wires and posting deposits.
  • Ensures that legally required accounting records are safeguarded and properly stored and that all financial statements issued are consistent with these records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as special projects for the Controller, CFO and Manager of Financial Reporting.
