About The Position

Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in the preparation and administration of the County's budget. This role involves reviewing and evaluating budget requests, monitoring and analyzing accounts and budget variances, and coordinating the assembly and dissemination of budget documents and reports. The position also reviews contracts, agreements, and purchase requisitions to ensure funding availability, projects revenues and expenditures, and analyzes proposed financial projects against budget allocations. Additionally, the Senior Accountant verifies complex financial and budgeting data, assists and trains Business Managers on budgeting practices and the County's financial system, prepares costing studies, and participates in the development of budgeting and reporting procedures. The role may provide lead direction and work review for support staff, make recommendations for procedural changes, and evaluate programs for improvements. Essential functions include sitting for computer work, working with and around others, working alone, dealing with interruptions, repetitive motion (hand/wrist) for computer work, vision acuity (near/far) for computer work, hearing and speech for communication, and finger dexterity for typing/10-key.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting field and three years progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or budgeting; OR, Associate's degree in accounting field and four years progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or budgeting; OR, Five years progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or budgeting; OR, Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
