About The Position
Cherry Bekaert is partnered with a small but growing government contracting organization that supports DoD/Navy programs and is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team. This role is newly created due to growth and will report directly to the CFO in a lean, two‑person accounting function. This position is ideal for a hands‑on accountant with strong full‑cycle accounting experience in a GovCon environment who is comfortable operating in a high‑impact, “mini‑controller” type role.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong Deltek Costpoint experience required
- Prior experience in government contracting required
- Experience handling close in a small or mid‑sized organization
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
Nice To Haves
- CPA preferred but not required
Responsibilities
- Manage full‑cycle accounting including journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end close
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements and management reporting
- Handle Costpoint‑based accounting activities, including project and cost accounting
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing processes
- Maintain indirect rates, cost pools, and allocations
- Partner closely with the CFO on financial reporting and analysis
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, and GovCon requirements
- Assist with audit support and process improvements
