Senior Accountant, Core Revenue

Function HealthAustin, TX

About The Position

The Senior Accountant, Core Revenue will perform the day-to-day duties of the revenue accounting for Function Health's core revenue streams — Direct To Consumer (DTC) memberships, and imaging and scan services. You will prepare the month-end and quarter-end close across these streams, execute account reconciliations and flux analysis, and help build the systems, processes, and integrations that allow these operations to scale. Core revenue spans multiple streams, each with its own systems and data, and each at a different stage of maturity. Data quality is a primary constraint on scaling these operations today. You will work closely with data engineering and product teams to trace issues to their root cause and support the Rillet integration already underway for these streams. You will bring rigor to processes that are still being built, working through undocumented and evolving data along the way. The right person for this role is naturally curious, picks up context fast, and instinctively turns undocumented knowledge into repeatable processes. You will report to the Senior Manager, Core Revenue, and operate as a key contributor within a lean, high-autonomy team. Function's revenue accounting function is still being built, and you will have real influence over how it operates. That means bringing your own perspective and flagging issues when something doesn't look right, rather than simply executing tasks as assigned. The ideal candidate is comfortable working through ambiguity, meticulous in their attention to detail, self-motivated, and resourceful, energized by a fast-paced, high-growth environment and motivated by the opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with exposure to revenue accounting; Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Comfortable working through messy, undocumented data and immature systems, without waiting for a perfect process to get started.
  • Track record of identifying data quality issues at the root cause in nascent or evolving data environments, and partnering with product, engineering, and data teams to fix them — not just reconciling around problems.
  • Experience performing month-end close, account reconciliations, and flux/variance analysis independently, with minimal oversight.
  • Strong data skills — comfortable manipulating and reconciling large, imperfect datasets in Excel or similar tools to trace issues to root cause, not just symptoms.
  • Clear communicator, proactive, and detail-oriented — you flag data and process issues before they become close problems.
  • Solid understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition, applied to service-based and subscription revenue models.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation, or actively pursuing certification.
  • Exposure to subscription-based/health-tech businesses
  • Familiarity with Stripe or other payment processor data.
  • Exposure to scoping or testing ERP/rev rec system integrations (e.g., Rillet, NetSuite) as an accounting stakeholder.
  • Hands-on use of AI or automation tools (Claude, ChatGPT, advanced Excel/Sheets, scripting) in accounting workflows, or a strong point of view on how they should be applied.

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly and quarterly close for DTC memberships, and imaging and scan services revenue — preparing revenue-related journal entries, deferred revenue schedules, and account reconciliations against a fixed close calendar.
  • Analyze financial results, investigate fluctuations, and provide clear explanations for balance sheet and income statement variances.
  • Investigate data quality issues across revenue systems, tracing them to root cause, and partner with data engineering and product teams to resolve them at the source.
  • Support the Rillet integration from the accounting side — mapping data flows, testing configurations, and helping define what the system needs to support a clean, auditable close.
  • Reconcile revenue and payment data, including Stripe transaction detail, to identify and resolve discrepancies between subledgers, payment processors, and the general ledger.
  • Maintain revenue schedules and supporting documentation for DTC memberships, and imaging and scan services, and prepare audit support for KPMG (or other reviewers) on request.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that reduce manual work and strengthen controls as scans moves toward steady state
