About The Position

The Senior Accountant - Audit/Construction role is responsible for performing and overseeing key aspects of audit, review, and other assurance engagements, with a primary focus on clients in the construction and contractor market. This position involves working as part of a dynamic team and supporting the Niche Lead. The role is crucial in delivering high-quality client service and supporting the growth of the firm’s construction practice. Responsibilities include executing complex audit and review procedures, evaluating financial statements and internal controls, and assisting with construction-specific accounting areas such as project accounting, job costing, work-in-progress schedules, revenue recognition, and related financial reporting. The role also involves being a primary day-to-day contact for clients, providing guidance and supervision to staff accountants, and communicating engagement progress, findings, and technical matters to managers and partners. Candidates with relevant construction accounting experience in either public accounting or private industry are encouraged to apply. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a relevant degree
  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience in audit
  • Candidate must be an effective communicator with the ability to pursue self-development and excel within our team approach
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to successfully multitask
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Construction Accounting is preferred
  • CPA is a plus, but not necessary
  • Prior experience with various assurance applications and research tools beneficial
  • Prior experience with a paperless workpaper system beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Execute and oversee day-to-day activities of audit, review, and other assurance engagements, with a primary focus on construction and contractor clients
  • Perform engagement planning, risk assessment, internal control evaluation, substantive testing, and other audit and review procedures
  • Prepare and analyze client financial statements, including related disclosures, and evaluate compliance with applicable accounting and reporting standards
  • Perform and review balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate significant or unusual account activity and variances
  • Review work-in-process (WIP) and completed contract schedules, including job costs, estimated costs to complete, contract revenues, and related revenue recognition
  • Analyze project accounting and job costing information and identify trends, inconsistencies, or matters requiring further investigation
  • Review and maintain fixed asset schedules and related supporting documentation
  • Develop client expectations and analytical procedures to identify and investigate significant financial statement and account variances
  • Take ownership of assigned engagement areas, including more complex accounts and audit procedures, ensuring work is completed accurately and within established timelines
  • Identify, research, and communicate accounting, auditing, internal control, and financial reporting matters to clients and engagement leadership
  • Identify and recommend accounting and process improvements that enhance the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting and improve clients' audit and review readiness
  • Prepare financial statements, management letters, and other engagement deliverables
  • Serve as a primary day-to-day client contact, coordinating information requests and maintaining effective communication throughout the engagement
  • Supervise, review, and provide guidance to staff accountants and interns, including providing timely feedback and assisting with their professional development
  • Assist with monitoring engagement budgets, timelines, and overall engagement progress
  • Develop a strong understanding of clients' businesses, including their operations, accounting systems, internal controls, project accounting processes, and industry-specific risks
  • Demonstrate knowledge of U.S. GAAP and applicable auditing, accounting, and review standards, including Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS), with the ability to research and apply technical guidance to client-specific matters.
