About The Position

Assist an individual with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, or other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, and dignified life by advocating for the individual’s rights and benefits. This position involves working independently with a 7-year-old boy who has mobility impairment, cognitive and developmental delays, speech delays, and Down syndrome. He enjoys swimming, swinging, and playing with his toys. The caregiver should follow his daily schedule and planning needs and be motivated, caring, reliable, organized, proactive, and community-centered. The role offers long-term potential.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Valid New York State driver’s license.
A vehicle is required to perform the job.
Able to lift, transfer, and move at least 50 pounds.
Complete required training within 90 days of hire and maintain current certifications for all required trainings.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Applicants cannot have the same address as the person supported.
Able to talk, hear, stand for extended periods, walk, sit, twist, bend, use fingers, and stretch with hands and arms.
Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Able to travel by automobile and work in changing weather conditions.
This role involves potential exposure to blood or body fluids and requires specific safety training.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience in the human service field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide supervision, training, and assistance with activities of daily living, including self-care, social, recreation, community, and domestic skills.
Advocate for and act as a liaison regarding the supported individual’s rights and benefits.
Assist the supported child independently and follow his daily schedule and plans.
