About The Position

Assist individuals with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of individuals’ rights and benefits. This role involves providing supervision, training, and assistance in accomplishing activities of daily living for a 23-year-old male named Chayne, who enjoys listening to music, watching sports, and outdoor activities like fishing, swimming, and visiting the zoo. There is a possibility to work with his sibling, age 10. The position is located in Syracuse, NY.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Maintain a valid New York State driver’s license
• A vehicle is required to perform the job
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Must be trained in all required trainings within 90 days of being hired and maintain current certifications with all required trainings
• Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communications skills
• Must be 18 years or older
• Applicants cannot have the same address as person supported
• Must be able to talk, hear, stand for extended periods of time, walk, sit, twist, bend, use hand to finger, stretch with hands and arms
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus
• Travel by automobile and exposure to changing weather conditions

Nice To Haves

• One-year experience in the human service field preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, training, and assistance in accomplishing activities of daily living, including self-care skills, social skills, recreation skills, community skills, and domestic skills.
• Serve as an advocate and liaison for individuals' rights and benefits.
• Engage with the individual in preferred activities such as listening to music, watching videos of sports teams and bands, fishing, swimming, and going to the zoo.
• Potentially work with the sibling of the primary individual supported.
