About The Position
Assist individuals with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of individuals’ rights and benefits. This role involves providing supervision, training, and assistance in accomplishing activities of daily living for a 33-year-old female with developmental delays and active monthly seizures. The individual is speech impaired but understands conversation, questions, and instructions. Responsibilities include helping her reach simple goals and working on skills in the home and community, such as arts and crafts, music, games, puzzles, and cooking. The role also requires assisting with equipment like a walker, stander, bolster, and wedge, and transporting her to community events in her wheelchair van with a power wheelchair. Assistance with personal hygiene is a requirement, with training provided by the mother. The individual also has three cats.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Maintain a valid New York State driver’s license
- A vehicle is required to perform the job
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be trained in all required trainings within 90 days of being hired
- Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communications skills
- Must be 18 years or older
- Applicants cannot have the same address as person supported
Nice To Haves
- One-year experience in the human service field preferred
