About The Position

The special education teacher will collaborate with team members including the general education teacher, related services staff, school psychologists, parents and other district personnel to facilitate the development of a comprehensive individualized education program that will support students in the least restrictive environment.

Requirements

• Knowledge of disabilities and their educational implications
• Knowledge of State and Federal special education laws, rules, and regulations
• Knowledge of a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of students
• Knowledge of modifications to regular classroom curricula as needed
• Skill in writing comprehensive individualized educational plans that include specially designed instruction
• Skill in organization
• Skill in problem solving
• Skill in facilitating meetings
• Skill in communication, written and oral
• Proficiency with technology such as Google, data systems, Smart TVs

Nice To Haves

• Master's Degree preferred
• Experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Planning, developing, delivering individualized educational services, learning programs and instruction for special needs in a self-contained setting in collaboration with other school personnel.
• Assessing students through formal and informal assessments
• Managing student behavior using positive reinforcement
• Effective supervision of instructional assistants
• Develop compliant IEPs, supporting documents and progress reports
• Facilitating compliant IEP meetings, which include all special education team members
