About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Parkview Elementary School as a Self Contained Instructional Assistant. This full-time position involves supporting students with diverse learning needs in a self-contained classroom environment. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere that promotes academic and social growth for all students.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree or higher in education or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow direction from the classroom teacher.
  • Basic proficiency in technology and willingness to learn new educational tools and software.
  • Knowledge of special education practices, behavior management techniques, and instructional strategies is a plus.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
  • Background check clearance as required by school district policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide direct support to students in academic tasks, including reading, writing, and math.
  • Facilitate small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring sessions to enhance student learning.
  • Monitor and document student progress, behaviors, and participation in classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and parents to develop and adapt instructional materials and strategies.
  • Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of behavioral intervention plans as needed.
  • Support students during transitions, including lunch, recess, and other activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Uphold school policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.
