About The Position

Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) is seeking a Self-Checkout Attendant to engage with customers, provide efficient checkout services, communicate grocery carry out services, and monitor self-checkout lanes. This role requires maintaining proficiency in transactions and tender accuracy, performing various customer service duties, and ensuring a safe and sanitary shopping environment. BGC is a regional, family-owned retail grocery business with over 215 stores across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, committed to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace where employees can thrive and grow.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of cash register.
  • Basic knowledge of tender policies and procedures.
  • Basic mathematical and counting skills.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to remain courteous with customers at all times.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and partners in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to achieve positive outcomes in all customer interactions.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.
  • TABC/LACT/AATC certification required where applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum three months of experience as a cashier, office, or management experience recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a consistent position at the entrance of the self-checkout lane when not assisting customers.
  • Directs and invites customers to use self-checkout lanes based on availability and payment method options.
  • Resolves varying customer interventions accurately and with a sense of urgency.
  • Closely monitors all transactions for accuracy.
  • Acts as a role model for “Jump-Over-the-Counter Service Excellence”.
  • Monitors, scans, and labels items on the bottom of the shopping cart.
  • Communicates customers needing carry out assistance to courtesy clerks.
  • Maintains clean, safe and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to Company safety procedures.
  • Complies with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to all local, state, and federal laws regarding sales of restricted items such as tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis-based and pharmaceutical products.
