As a Research Seed Inventory Specialist, you will oversee the management of the York, Nebraska Research Center’s multi-crop seed inventory. You will be involved in all phases of the research station functions including multi-crop breeding and seed logistics, while providing multi-functional support for summer trait and data collection, pollinating, field activities and seed inventory management. This is a great opportunity for someone with organizational skills as well as crop production and agronomy knowledge to contribute at a high level to the development of elite new industry products. The ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm for collaborating in a team environment where evolving technologies in agriculture are driving product development. Please note: there is no visa sponsorship or relocation assistance provided for this role.

Requirements

  • Minimum associate's degree with 2 years relevant work experience or bachelor’s degree (preferred) in agronomy or related discipline
  • Knowledge of agronomy, crop production, plant development, and experimental field plot design preferred or the ability to learn.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, strategic analysis, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills in a deadline driven environment.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to learn proprietary software tools.
  • Ability to develop a working relationship with team members by exhibiting excellent communication and personal interaction skills with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to operate or learn agricultural equipment with proper training while observing all safety requirements.
  • Must be capable of working in varying ergonomic and environmental conditions for extended periods of time including overtime and partial weekends during seasonal peaks.
  • This is a 100% site dedicated position.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing and maintaining accurate inventory of all crops and supervise part-time employees to complete inventory and seed handling processes.
  • In conjunction with seed inventory management, you will be a key team member for seed requests and overseeing the transfer of germplasm in and out of the site along with associated shipping and receiving processes.
  • Assist with all phases of the multi-crop breeding processes including experiment planning and implementation.
  • Participate in all aspects of data collection efforts that are important for product characterization.
  • Become a key team member for summer corn pollinations and phytosanitary inspections.
  • Lead designated processes important for seed preparation such as seed filling, seed treating, and planting preparation.
  • Ability to participate with planting and harvest crews as required
  • Lead in site safety culture and ensure adherence to safety standards.
