About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure a tranquil and safe environment for the Members and Employees of Vicar's Landing, through the enforcement of the policies and Procedures as established by the Director of Security and Administration. This role involves maintaining a good working rapport with members, guests, and personnel, identifying and reporting safety hazards, monitoring two-way radios, and responding to suspicious activities or crimes in progress. The officer will also aid in emergency situations, prepare necessary reports, and monitor for internal theft and trespassers. Responsibilities include protecting life and property, enforcing parking regulations, operating the fire alarm panel, performing basic maintenance checks, and conducting security tours using a watchman's time clock. Additionally, the role involves transporting members, delivering mail and packages, and potentially relieving the main desk receptionist. The officer must adhere to a strict code of ethics and conduct, including remaining alert on duty and refraining from consuming intoxicants while in uniform or engaging in illegal activities.

Requirements

  • High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area, e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc.
  • 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must maintain a current CPR certificate.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle as required for job duties.
  • Must be able to assist in moving patients.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work period.
  • Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Consumption of intoxicants while in uniform is prohibited.
  • Making false official statements is prohibited.
  • Engaging in any illegal activities on Vicar's Landing property is prohibited.
  • Sleeping on duty is prohibited.
  • It is mandatory to always remain alert while on duty.
  • Divulging or discussing official department business is prohibited.
  • Serving your own private interests interferes with proper performance of duty.
  • Displaying or carrying any type of weapon on one's person is prohibited.
  • The use of profanity is prohibited.

Nice To Haves

  • May be required to perform duties in inclement weather.
  • Employee must have excellent balance and be able to climb a ladder and walk around a roof.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and be able to work at heights.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus as well as work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • The employee must be able to communicate verbally with other on the phone or in person.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a good working rapport with Members, Guests and Personnel of this and other Departments and aid whenever possible.
  • Identify, report, and take positive action on any safety hazard that could cause accidents, such as ground obstacles, campus lighting, exposed holes, fallen trees, etc.
  • Monitor a two-way radio.
  • Report any suspicious activities or a crime in progress to the St. John's County Sheriff’s Department.
  • Aid as required in emergency situations.
  • Be familiar with the emergency procedures.
  • Prepare all necessary reports and records connected with security and safety, to include a daily chronological duty log of the security inspection walk-through.
  • Observe Vicar's Landing employees and areas for internal theft.
  • Identify any trespassers on the property and report information to St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
  • Assist in protection of life and property for Vicar's Landing.
  • Enforce parking regulations.
  • Operate the Fire Alarm Panel during alarms, drills, and false alarms, including resetting devices and the panel.
  • Perform first response for maintenance related items, including basic operation of appliances to determine if maintenance is needed.
  • Be familiar with the Watchman's Time Clock schedule and key locations, conducting tours in accordance with set times.
  • Provide proper pass down information in the pass down log.
  • Utilize the master key only conducting authorized business.
  • Transport members to and from the dining room during the evening meal using a golf cart or wheelchair safely.
  • Conduct security inspection walk-throughs of all independent living buildings while on patrol, checking all floors, using the WATCHMAN'S TIME CLOCK, in accordance with proper shift schedule.
  • Check exterior doors to ensure they are secured, and the door guard system is activated in the Health Center.
  • Deliver packages and mail to independent living membership.
  • Deliver signature mail to the independent living members, logging in the letter or package number.
  • Check on maintenance required items notifying the on-call maintenance duty person of any member-related equipment that needs fixing.
  • Relieve Main Desk Receptionist as needed, operating the multi-PBX system transferring phone calls etc.
  • Secure West and North Buildings at 2200 checking that all-appropriate lighting is turned off (except for the security lights including restrooms).
  • Secure the East building when staff leaves, checking that all-appropriate lighting is turned off.
  • Check all gas appliances in the kitchen, ensuring all control devices are in the off position.
  • Observe exceptions and special instructions issued by the director of food services.
  • Be alert of burnt-out lighting throughout the facility.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
