About The Position

The Security Technology Support Specialist is a position responsible for supporting, monitoring, and assisting with the administration of campus security technologies while also providing operational support for campus safety and security functions. This position works collaboratively with the Information Technology Department and Campus Police/Security personnel to ensure the effective operation of physical security systems, emergency communication technologies, and related safety infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to function effectively in both technology and campus security support environments. This position may involve flexible scheduling, emergency response responsibilities, and participation in campus safety operations. This position may require evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call work assignments. The employee may be exposed to stressful situations, emergency incidents, and varying weather conditions while performing campus safety and security responsibilities. Requirements

  • Minimum Associate degree Information Technology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience working with or supporting video surveillance systems, access control systems, emergency notification systems, or related security technologies
  • Strong computer and technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly learn new software and security technologies
  • Strong attention to detail and situational awareness
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, manufacturer documentation, and operational procedures
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and remain calm during emergency situations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively as part of a team
  • Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and assist with the configuration and daily administration of campus security technology systems under the direction of Campus Police/Security and in coordination with the Information Technology Department.
  • Monitor and respond to alerts generated from video surveillance systems, gunshot detection systems, access control systems, and emergency notification platforms.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain front-end functionality within security platforms including: Video management systems (Avigilon), Access control systems (Avigilon), Emergency communication systems (Singlewire Software InformaCast).
  • Export, review, archive, and retrieve video footage and system data for investigative and incident response purposes while maintaining proper chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Assist with planning, coordination, testing, and execution of emergency communication procedures utilizing InformaCast and related emergency response technologies.
  • Evaluate and recommend effective camera placement and surveillance coverage based on campus security needs and operational requirements.
  • Identify and report hardware, software, and operational issues related to security technologies and coordinate with the IT Department for escalated troubleshooting and back-end support.
  • Maintain operational awareness of integrated security technologies including surveillance cameras, access control systems, emergency notification systems, and gunshot detection technologies.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, operational procedures, and incident-related records.
  • Coordinate professionally with police personnel, IT staff, faculty, staff, students, emergency responders, and external vendors.
  • Assist with daily campus security operations including routine patrols, incident response, and general campus safety support.
  • Respond appropriately to security incidents, emergencies, alarms, and requests for assistance.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors.
  • Support emergency management and incident coordination efforts during campus emergencies or critical incidents.
  • Exercise sound judgment and professionalism during routine operations and emergency situations.
  • Participate in flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, holidays, emergency call-ins, and overtime assignments as operational needs require.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive security information and law enforcement-related data.
