About The Position

Global AV Group is a commercial audiovisual, security, and integrated technology firm delivering high-performance systems and experiences nationwide. Our work supports corporate, hospitality, experiential, commercial, and technical environments, with a focus on professional installation, system reliability, and exceptional client service. We are seeking an experienced Security Systems Technician to join our team based out of Hicksville, NY. This role is responsible for the installation, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service of commercial security systems, including access control, IP video surveillance, and intrusion alarm systems. This is not an entry-level installation position. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience programming and commissioning security systems in addition to performing physical installations. The Security Systems Technician will work independently and as part of larger project teams while coordinating with Project Managers, engineers, electricians, locksmiths, IT personnel, and other trades. This position is primarily field-based, with work throughout Long Island, New York City, surrounding areas, and occasional out-of-state travel.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional security system installation and programming experience
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with all three of the following: Access control systems, IP camera and video surveillance systems, Intrusion alarm systems
  • Ability to program and commission security systems, not installation experience alone
  • Working knowledge of IP networking, including TCP/IP, static IP addressing, DHCP, PoE, switches, routers, and basic network troubleshooting
  • Experience terminating and testing Category and low-voltage security cabling
  • Ability to diagnose system problems and complete repairs with limited supervision
  • Ability to read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and project documentation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional appearance and strong customer-service skills
  • Valid driver's license for at least 2 years, safe driving record, and access to a vehicle during the workday.
  • Ability to pass applicable background checks and satisfy New York security-industry registration requirements
  • Authorization to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturer certifications for access control, video surveillance, intrusion, intercom, or networking platforms
  • Experience with enterprise-level access control and video management systems
  • Experience integrating access control, cameras, intrusion alarms, intercoms, and related building systems
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience working in commercial, hospitality, restaurant, luxury residential, or multi-dwelling environments
  • Experience completing service calls and supporting existing customer systems

Responsibilities

  • Install, program, configure, test, commission, and service access control systems
  • Install and configure IP cameras and video management systems
  • Install, program, and troubleshoot intrusion and burglar alarm systems
  • Install and configure intercoms and related security devices
  • Install cameras, card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, motion detectors, control panels, power supplies, and associated hardware
  • Program access levels, schedules, users, credentials, alarm zones, recording rules, notifications, and system integrations
  • Perform camera aiming, focus adjustment, image-quality verification, and recording tests
  • Install, terminate, label, and test Category cable and low-voltage security wiring
  • Configure IP addresses and connect security devices to customer networks
  • Work with TCP/IP, static IP addressing, DHCP, PoE, switches, routers, and related networking components
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot network communication and connectivity issues related to security systems
  • Troubleshoot wiring, communication, network, hardware, software, and programming issues
  • Diagnose system failures and complete repairs with limited supervision
  • Complete punch-list, commissioning, warranty, and service work
  • Verify complete system functionality before project turnover
  • Train customers on system operation and basic system administration
  • Read and interpret drawings, floor plans, risers, wiring diagrams, scopes of work, and equipment schedules
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, engineers, programmers, electricians, locksmiths, IT personnel, and other trades
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, programming records, test results, photographs, and as-built documentation
  • Identify and communicate potential project issues before they impact schedule, performance, or system functionality
  • Follow company installation standards, safety requirements, and customer site procedures
  • Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, materials, and company vehicles
