About The Position

Convergint is looking for a Security Technical Lead to join our amazing culture in our Calgary, AB location. As the Security Technical Lead, you will be responsible for providing customer and technical support for a broad range of installed systems including basic to complex systems. Responsibilities include system installation, programming, system start-up/check-out, certification, and related customer training on projects. The Technical Lead may also service and supports existing customers by responding to service calls, carrying out Customer Support Programs and small projects business. The Technical Lead provides technical supervision, coaching, and mentoring to field colleagues with respect to the installation and service on Security projects. This role facilitates the delivery of assigned projects effectively and within budgeted cost and time schedules.

Requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge and experience related to building automation systems, fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems; occasionally required to adapt and develop procedures, processes, tools to meet the more complex requirements of the job.
  • Solid ability to read blueprints and drawings: solid math skills.
  • Strong programming skills and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions
  • Demonstrates initiative – regularly engages in proactive behaviour and looks for opportunities
  • Strong analytical skills necessary to resolve problems and look for solutions
  • Good financial skills related to cost control.
  • Good coaching, mentoring, and staff development skills.
  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Advanced organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Diploma in electronics, electrical or mechanical preferred.
  • Relevant trade experience an asset.
  • Minimum of five years of previous, relevant field experience required.
  • Experience in electronic security

Responsibilities

  • Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services a substantial variety of systems and equipment relating to electronic security. Colleague is key interface for the provision of technical support and training for the customer and as such is accountable for maximizing customer satisfaction. Assignments are broad in nature and may require a high level of ingenuity and proficiency
  • Oversee the technicians on the customer site including managing weekly working rotations to ensure all planned and break-in work is handled in a timely, efficient manner. Completing weekly timesheet approvals, mid-year and annual performance reviews, providing technical training, guidance and support, and liaising with Convergint office
  • Reads blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation requirements; Interprets manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using advanced test instruments and hand tools.
  • Work with technicians and customers on improvement opportunities to enhance Customer’s operational needs including maximizing efficiencies.
  • Work with Installation group, service group and dispatch to coordinate field resources to support work volumes and schedules of execution
  • Capable of operating systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions.
  • Consult with management and/or engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
  • Advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards as well as suggestions for product improvements.
  • Provide sales support to advance Convergint growth opportunities in our marketplace.
  • Identify potential project risks, communicate to appropriate parties and assist in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and to control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
  • Actively promote Convergint’s CSP program to our customers in conjunction with the service team and may perform quality assurance visits.
  • Using technical knowledge, skills and experience, mentor and train less experienced staff. Provides technical guidance to workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance. Provides performance feedback to management regarding technical team (Project and/or Service Specialists).
  • Executes all work in accordance with Provincial, local regulations, general best practices as well as company health and safety policies and procedures. Promote and enforce company health and safety policies and procedures. Review and sign all relevant safety paperwork.
  • Always acts as “our customer’s best service provider” thereby ensuring Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service.
  • Communicates with and works with the other team members consistently to improve overall operations of the Convergint Technology Center, and company.
  • Keeps up to date and informed on all company policies.
  • Always presents a professional image of Convergint in appearance and behaviour.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
