Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • one (1) to three (3) years of security supervision experience with unarmed security certification required
  • equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Incumbent should be able to apply practical knowledge and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form
  • possess high-quality verbal and written communication ability

Responsibilities

  • Provides safety and security to residents, visitors, and employees of Ingleside’s residents and communities.
  • Establishes/maintains the community-wide security program to include training, scheduling, and evaluating security officers.
  • Create and maintain all security related records including but not limited to logs, unusual occurrences, and incident reports.
  • Ensures all areas of the community comply with the security, safety and fire requirements set by the District of Columbia.
  • Investigates all instances of property loss and/or disturbances; writes and reviews thorough report of findings and sends to Executive Director, Director of Community Health Services, Director of Property Management and Assistant Director of Property Management.
  • Conduct/ assists with facility safety drills and/or emergency situations including but not limited to code greens (elopement drills), code red (fire drills) and all other EOP (emergency operation plan) emergencies.
  • Partners with HR to escorts terminated employees from the property and ensures all community property has been returned.
  • Maintains and updates all security department files, ensuring all information is accurate.
  • Reports any emergency situation to the fire or police department immediately and ensures appropriate staff is notified in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures all visitors are parked in appropriate parking spaces, resolves issues as needed.
  • Assists nursing staff with lifting and/or escorting residents within the community.
  • Reviews/monitors security camera, lifeline, or SARA system throughout community.
  • Assists in general maintenance duties, repairs, or requests on an as needed basis.
  • Assumes the role of maintenance mechanic when requested and calls for backup if unable to resolve maintenance issues.
  • Handles simple maintenance repairs to include light fixtures, HVAC, basic plumbing, etc.
  • Aides in determining and resolving power outages throughout the community.
  • Removes snow during the winter; salts sidewalks and entrances throughout the community.
  • Records, completes, and returns maintenance paperwork to the Property Manager.
  • Acts as a leader and manager of assigned positions; ensuring productivity, efficiency, and accuracy in work performed.
  • Maintains payroll and time off request for all security officers; forwards to Assistant Director of Property Management.
  • Creates and posts security officers’ schedules in the security office monthly.
  • Ensures initial and ongoing training is provided to employees as needed; ensures cross-training is completed as appropriate.
  • Identifies unacceptable performance and behavior exhibited by employees and takes appropriate action; utilizes progressive discipline policy when appropriate and maintains documentation as required.
  • Conducts annual performance touchpoints of security officers; sends copies to Director of Property Management, Assistant Director of Property Management and Human Resources.
  • Monitors and maintains scheduled security checks including, but not limited to rounding scanner, radio, and Assures that security officers follow established policies and procedures.
  • Assists with screens, interviews, and hiring new security officers on an as needed basis.
  • Assist with creating and conducting in-service training for staff and residents.
  • Maintains professional presence when representing Ingleside exhibits degree of professionalism consistent with standards in performance, behavior, and appearance.
  • Always maintain resident confidentiality according to policies and procedures; use discretion when discussing confidential matters.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior with residents, families, co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and other department staff.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with management and coworkers; willingly follow directions and requests as appropriate.
  • Exhibits professional standards through appearance and demeanor consistent personnel standards.

  • Reports any potential safety hazard(s) immediately to supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
  • Reports any injury of resident, visitor, or employee immediately to supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
  • Help residents, visitors, or employees in an emergency situation following the proper emergency procedures.
