About The Position

As a Shift Commander, you will uphold the safety, security, policies, standards and interests of the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa by acting as the supervisor for all Security Officers assigned to their shift. This position is responsible for the safety and security of guests, and employees, as well as the property of the Resort. You will respond and effectively manage emergency situations at the Resort such as fire, power outage, employee or guest medical emergency, employee and/or guest accident, and/or natural disaster. Security Shift Commanders provide a security presence throughout the resort and its properties to maintain order, monitor activity, identify potential risks, prevent accidents and/or injuries and deter harmful activity such as theft, vandalism, and violence.

Requirements

21 years of age or older and have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
Must have at least one year previous work experience in the security field, military service, law enforcement, or related field.
Must have a current, valid driver’s license and qualify for driving resort vehicles under company policy as mandated by our insurance company.
Must be able to pass a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment.
Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills.
Demonstrates ability to conduct security investigations that include skills in problem solving, data collection, establishing relevant facts and drawing valid conclusions.
Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate, current and coherent security logs.
Demonstrates skills in working with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet resources, security cameras and other equipment routinely used by security personnel.
Team oriented with strong interpersonal skills. Able to motivate others through work habits and setting a good example.
Possess effective time management skills when completing assigned tasks.
Possess excellent customer service and both written and oral communication skills. Possess the ability to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Motivated with a positive attitude and the ability to perform effectively in high pressure/volume situations.
Ability to quickly move arms, hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate and assemble objects; walk, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or stand for long periods of time.
Possess the ability to see objects at close range and at a distance.
Capable of occasionally lifting up to 50lbs and in rare situations up to 150lbs with or without assistance.
Possess the ability to comprehend and follow directions.
Ability to maintain eye contact and engage with internal and external guests in a courteous and professional manner.
Effectively handle stressful and difficult situations/interactions while remaining focused and professional.
Perform complex or varied tasks under deadlines and tight schedules.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of previous experience in a supervisory capacity, highly preferred.
CPR and AED training is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Supervise, train, and evaluate security personnel assigned to their shift by providing commentary and instruction on an ongoing basis.
Assure the fire, safety, and health related equipment are present and functional.
Assist in the routine patrol of the property, both interior and exterior.
Be familiar with building and grounds layouts and possess a working knowledge of all departments and outlets including closing procedures.
Maintain a thorough understanding of the Salto key system for purposes of key issuance, minor adjustments to the guestroom locks, access control, investigative measures, etc.
Have a complete understanding of fire systems and alarms including the procedures of notification of Central Dispatch for police and fire departments.
Engage in routine patrol consisting of surveillance of property and personnel, remaining vigilant for crimes against persons and property, theft and pilferage, safety hazards and potential disturbances.
Write complete, concise and accurate reports for departmental, legal, and insurance purposes.
Coordinate and direct all GTRS personnel and guests in the event of an emergency.
Maintain and update the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) master file.
Maintain and replenish all First Aid Kits on property.
Check and log the monthly fire extinguisher checks.
Respond and be prepared to effectively act in the event of any emergency as in the case of a fire, power outage, medical emergency, accident or disaster.
Actively engage in accident prevention and safety.
Act on behalf of the resort management in maintaining an orderly environment.
Be a point of contact for after-hours employee injuries, and provide required paperwork for injury/accident reporting.
Maintain the highest standards of privacy, confidentiality and respect at all times, when handling sensitive information related to guests, employees and company matters.
Respond to radio requests using professional radio etiquette. Be responsible for the condition of the departmental radios.
Maintain superior working relations with internal and external customers while providing a memorable experience.
