About The Position

Security Subscriber Service Tech 1 (un) Johnson Controls helps create smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings, and this field-based role plays an important part in that mission. You will support customers by diagnosing, servicing, and repairing security and related building systems at customer sites, delivering reliable solutions with a strong focus on safety, service, and customer outcomes. As a Security Subscriber Service Tech 1, you will diagnose problems and perform service and repairs on card access, CCTV, burglar alarm systems, electronic fire alarm systems, and other related building system products. This role is designed for a technician who enjoys hands-on problem-solving, values customer satisfaction, and can represent Johnson Controls as a trusted service partner in the field.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of documented experience with card access and CCTV systems.
  • Experience installing, inspecting, repairing, and programming card access and CCTV.
  • Knowledge of test equipment, including a multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, operational/product manuals, diagrams, schematics, and specifications.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong customer service skills, a positive attitude, and solid organizational skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort using smart phones and laptop computers for service documentation.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Ability to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, or working within ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
  • Ability to adhere to safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
  • Retain any licenses required by National, State, and Local codes.
  • Knowledge of applicable NFPA standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Fire alarm experience.
  • Experience with electronic fire alarm systems or additional low-voltage security systems.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair card access, CCTV, burglar alarm, and related building system products at customer sites.
  • Install, inspect, repair, and program card access and CCTV systems, and support fire alarm-related work when assigned.
  • Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures to identify issues and restore system performance efficiently.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
  • Communicate clearly with staff and customers to support timely resolution and a positive service experience.
  • Complete service acknowledgements with proper coding using smart phones and laptop computers, and obtain customer signatures upon completion of service calls.
  • Provide recommendations, quotes, and practical solutions to help facilities operate efficiently and identify potential upselling opportunities.
  • Maintain truck inventory, respond to on-call emergency service as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and rely on technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to repair equipment accurately.
  • Work safely and with integrity at customer sites, keeping safety guidelines, service quality, and customer needs at the center of every decision.
  • Use the right test equipment, including a multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices, to verify performance before closing out the job.
  • Document work clearly and promptly, complete service acknowledgements with accurate coding, and secure customer sign-off at the end of the call.
  • Stay close to the work, communicate openly, and remove obstacles so customers receive timely, effective service.
  • Collaborate with customers, dispatch, and field partners to solve issues quickly and improve every day through practical problem-solving.
