About The Position

The Security Specialist is responsible for maintaining the security and safety of actively participating students and staff during program operation, assisting with student transitions and coordinating the dismissal and transportation for the students’ transition home. The YMCA requires employees to follow the internal reporting procedures with the assistance of the Program Managers. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or vocational school training.
  • At least one (1) year experience in armed security or sworn law enforcement assignment.
  • Ability to remain calm during crisis.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • SBBC security training or Certification as an ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Self-motivated to protect individuals’ and school property.
  • Regards all individuals with the same respect.
  • Innate ability to de-escalate any tense situation.
  • Good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear conversation voice.
  • Candidates must be able to endure physical exertion and running as needed.
  • Must be able to run, jump and lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprint background screening.
  • Successfully complete a drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • It is the responsibility of the Security Specialist to complete and maintain all necessary certifications, within the proper period, as set forth by either the licensing agency, State of Florida or the YMCA of South Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Patrolling of school interior and grounds during regular school hours or special assignments.
  • Monitors and secures hallways to ensure students are directed to appropriate service locations.
  • Ensure bathroom procedures are appropriately followed and report any instances of lack of compliance.
  • Responds to and/or supervises calls for service, which may include burglary, criminal mischief, and minor investigations, disturbances or disorders on school district sites, truancy, etc.
  • Prepares required records and or offense reports and patrols on foot or by vehicle to ensure protection and security personnel, and school district-owned equipment, buildings, and or property.
  • Enforces school or site traffic and parking regulations and may perform routine personnel accident investigations.
  • Assists local law enforcement agencies as required or requested.
  • Coordinates with appropriate educational staff, custodial staff, and operating engineer staff on security and safety requirements and procedures (e.g. science la safety, trade/ industry shops, storage, and exterior security lighting.
  • Ensures sound visitor control procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Ensures compliance with life safety requirements.
  • Promptly reports loss due to theft, vandalism to risk management through the established procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and security procedures for all modular classroom, office and storage structures.
  • Reports all incidents and accidents within 24 hours to the corporate office.
  • Adheres to the Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting requirements, which mandate by law all childcare personnel to report suspicions of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
