About The Position

The Aviation Security & Public Safety department is looking for a Security & Public Safety Analyst II who brings sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to think quickly in a fast-paced airport environment. This role supports the daily operations of airport security and emergency response efforts, helping ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations while contributing to a safe, secure, and positive experience for the SAN traveler. The selected candidate will support security and public safety programs, assist with compliance efforts, and help coordinate responses to operational and security-related matters. They will work collaboratively with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and public safety partners, building strong relationships. This is an opportunity to contribute to the security and public safety of one of the nation’s busiest single-runway airports while building expertise in a mission-driven, public service environment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in aviation management, public administration, security or emergency management, or a closely related field; Three years of progressively responsible administrative and/or programmatic experience in aviation security and/or emergency preparedness; Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background investigation, training, and testing required for employment and operation of Authority and San Diego County physical security, surveillance, radio and telecommunications equipment.
  • Applicants must obtain Airport Security Coordinator (ASC) designation as approved by Aviation Security and Public Safety Management and the Transportation Security Administration within nine (9) months of employment.

  • Driving is an Essential Function: This role requires regular driving as a critical part of performing work-related duties, specifically involving the operation of Airport Authority vehicles. A valid California driver’s license is required, along with strict adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations. Applicants must maintain an acceptable driving record to operate Authority vehicles. Compliance with Airport Authority vehicle use policies, including safety protocols and reporting requirements, is mandatory. Applicants must acknowledge that driving Airport Authority vehicles is an essential function of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily security and public safety efforts to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Perform complex security, regulatory, and emergency management assignments, including Airport Security Coordinator (ASC) responsibilities and oversight of specialized programs such as employee screening, AED program management, business continuity planning, and other security and public safety initiatives.
  • Support response efforts for security incidents including security breaches and other security and public safety situations.
  • Interpret and apply security regulations, mandates, and operational requirements to support compliance and effective operations.
  • Conduct security and safety assessments, drills, and awareness activities; represent programs in committees and selection panels.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to resolve issues, advance initiatives, and monitor contractor performance.
  • Contribute to streamlining practices, preparing reports and budgets, and advancing infrastructure and industry knowledge, and other duties as assigned.
  • Perform tasks such as assessments and incident investigations in security-controlled areas within the AOA (Air Operations Area) that are only accessible by Airport Authority vehicle.
