About The Position

Convergint is seeking a full-time, enthusiastic, results-driven, and forward-thinking Security Technician to join their team. This role involves installing, programming, system start-up/check-out, certification, and customer training on assigned Fire, Security, and/or Building Automation projects. The technician will be responsible for delivering projects within budget and on schedule, acting as a key interface for technical support, and maximizing customer satisfaction. There is potential to mentor less-experienced staff. This position offers growth opportunities as Convergint expands.

Requirements

  • Exceptional customer focus and ability to regularly work under pressure.

  • Strong technical skills and experience related to building automation systems, fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems.
  • Ability to adapt procedures, processes, and tools to meet complex job requirements.
  • Advanced mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings.
  • Advanced math skills (may include calculating area, velocity, resistance, voltage, etc.).
  • Highly proficient computer skills including familiarity with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • College degree, trade school or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years experience in 1 or more of the following industries: electronic, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation.
  • Certification in Genetec, Lenel, Softwarehouse, Avigilon, or other enterprise-level systems.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services a variety of systems and equipment including security, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation.
  • Serves as the primary technical support contact for customers and provides training.
  • Reads complex blueprints, schematics, manuals, and specifications to determine installation requirements.
  • Interprets manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment using advanced test instruments and hand tools.
  • Operates systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions.
  • Writes non-routine programs for systems.
  • Acts as the customer's best service provider, ensuring Convergint is the customer's first choice for service.
  • Takes ownership of onsite projects, including safety, quality, and performance.
  • May provide custom systems integrations, detailed systems upgrade planning and execution, systems audits and consultation, and database management.
  • May install, configure, and support a variety of network systems and equipment.
  • Consults with engineering personnel to resolve complex system operation, maintenance, and warranty issues.
  • Performs all work in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as company health and safety policies.
  • Uses troubleshooting skills to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software.
  • May advise management on customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques, and product improvements.
  • Participates in or assists with developing customer presentations or new business development activities.
  • Executes technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets, including submittals, shop drawings, training documentation, programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and ongoing technical support.
  • Identifies potential project risks, communicates them to appropriate parties, and assists in developing strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
  • Works closely with the Project Manager and/or Operations Manager to coordinate projects, including supervision of subcontractors and installation work.
  • Makes recommendations regarding quality of work and potential scope changes, and identifies ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction.
  • Mentors and trains less experienced staff using technical knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • May supervise workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment for optimal performance.
  • Provides performance feedback to management regarding Project Specialist I and II.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
