About The Position

The Security Patrol Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment on the Lipscomb University campus. This role involves proactive patrols, responding to calls for service, enforcing regulations, and assisting with emergency situations. The officer will work closely with various university departments and personnel to ensure the well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, corrections, or a combination thereof.
  • Have a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
  • Pass background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Tennessee Armed Guard License.
  • Understanding of basic communications software and technology.
  • Understanding of basic patrol and dispatch procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pro-active, high visibility preventive patrols of Lipscomb University main campus and any/all off site facilities, including all buildings and grounds associated with Lipscomb Academy.
  • Respond to dispatched calls for service/assistance via Lipscomb University Security dispatch center, including medical calls, building locks/unlocks, vehicle assistance, maintenance department assistance, traffic control, safety concerns, on campus vehicle crashes, and suspicious activity.
  • Respond to requests for safety escorts of students, faculty, staff, or visitors.
  • Conduct scheduled locks/unlocks of buildings and/or rooms across the university campus.
  • Observe and investigate unusual or suspicious circumstances, and report, document, and follow up on potential security concerns and hazards such as lighting, access control, alarm systems, and fire safety.
  • Enforce parking regulations on campus through ticketing, immobilizing, and/or towing as appropriate.
  • Work with the Parking Coordinator to conduct closures of parking spaces/lots for scheduled events or university/academy needs.
  • Participate in community relations activities as directed.
  • Develop and maintain healthy relationships with university faculty, staff, students, and families.
  • Promote a safe and welcoming environment through daily interaction with university faculty, staff, and students.
  • Work with Shift Supervisor and/or the Director of Operations to develop, enhance, and operationalize emergency action plans.
  • Demonstrate a high level of awareness, good judgment, and critical thinking skills in all aspects of the position.
  • Utilize experience and skills to respond appropriately when threats to property or individuals occur.
  • Regularly self-audit and evaluate procedures, systems, and facilities, and actively engage in developing and enhancing these areas.
  • Assist Academy School Security Officers with security operations, including traffic control, enhancing security presence during special events, and filling in for Security Officers when needed.
  • Assist with any/all special events on university campus as directed.
  • Actively work with the Director of Operations to develop and enhance patrol procedures, protocols, and training.
  • Work independently and be self-sufficient.
  • Work with others in a cooperative, collaborative manner.
  • Utilize report writing program to document incidents on campus.
  • Detain/arrest subjects as needed within guidelines prescribed by the State of Tennessee Armed Guard Licensing.
  • Assist First Responders (Police, Fire, EMS) as requested when they are dispatched to university campus.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner and exemplify a Christ-like servant attitude.
  • Perform any other tasks as directed by supervisors.
