About The Position

Liberty Security Group is seeking experienced and empathetic security officers to join our team at a men’s shelter serving vulnerable populations in the Downtown Detroit area. Full- and Part-time positions are available for those dedicated to maintaining safety, order, and compassion in a meaningful role. As a Security Officer at Liberty Security, you will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This role requires sound judgment, empathy, and the ability to de-escalate conflicts effectively in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

• At least 5 years in security, law enforcement, or a similar role
• Experience with vulnerable populations is highly desirable
• Strong communication skills
• Basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Security guard license (if required by law)
• Empathy, integrity, calm demeanor under pressure, and adaptability
• Reliable transportation and access to a working cell phone
• Ability to stand for long periods and perform light physical duties (reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed)
• Candidates must successfully pass a criminal background check conducted in compliance with federal and state laws.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the facility and surroundings to deter unauthorized activities and ensure safety
• Monitor entry and exit points to create a secure, welcoming environment
• Respond to and manage security incidents with professionalism and discretion
• Enforce shelter rules respectfully, balancing authority with empathy
• Collaborate with shelter staff to de-escalate conflicts and mediate disputes
• Serve as the first responder in emergencies, coordinating with local authorities as needed
