About The Position

The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of the staff, residents and visitors of the Episcopal Church Home and/or River Edge Manor. This role involves patrolling the property, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings and access points, and permitting entry. The officer will also greet visitors, answer phones, respond to emergencies, and perform investigations as needed. Additional duties include assisting with fire drills, monitoring building systems, performing light maintenance, and conducting admission tours. The role requires maintaining a professional demeanor, wearing a uniform, and keeping New York State certification updated. Specific duties may vary between Episcopal Church Home and River Edge Manor, with River Edge Manor requiring assistance with resident physical conditions, newspaper delivery, and environmental needs.

Requirements

  • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
  • Be of good physical and mental health.
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations.
  • Must possess valid New York State security guard license.
  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma.
  • One to two years’ experience in the security field.
  • New York State registered required.

Responsibilities

  • Report to off-going shift for a status report regarding the building and its occupants.
  • Greet and assist all incoming visitors, staff, and residents in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Relieve reception and answer and direct all incoming calls in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Use overhead paging system as required.
  • Carry and answer all calls and texts on facility-issued cell phone in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry.
  • Record daily activity electronically for each shift.
  • Use security cameras to assist in overall security of facility.
  • Monitor traffic in and out of the building and monitor security cameras while stationed at the security desk.
  • Present outside at shift changes to monitor traffic in and out of the building and parking lot and ensure the safety of staff.
  • Immediately respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers.
  • Provide access to areas for staff, residents, families, vendors, and contractors upon request.
  • Open dock doors as needed for movement of furniture and supplies.
  • Perform investigations as needed.
  • Perform or assist with fire drills and other safety functions.
  • Respond to fire and other emergencies and follow department procedures.
  • Assist with coverage for security call-ins and vacation.
  • Monitor for the need of snow removal and slippery conditions and notify contractor as needed.
  • Assign lockers to staff as needed.
  • Conduct security inspections such as fire extinguishers, doors, eye wash stations, fire doors, elevators, and emergency lighting.
  • Raise/lower the flag.
  • Take and download resident pictures upon admission.
  • Complete Resident Admission Inventory within 48 hours of admission. Scan and save on computer.
  • Deliver medical equipment, supplies, newspapers, flowers, linen, O2 tanks, etc., as requested.
  • Deliver weekly supplies to nursing units.
  • Inspect windows and doors to ensure locks are in place and working.
  • Provide escort of staff to their respective vehicles as requested.
  • Ensure all exterior doors are locked and secure.
  • Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures. Investigate thefts and file police reports. Report and document rule infractions and violations.
  • Regulate and monitor building systems and notify maintenance on-call for any building needs.
  • Troubleshoot and perform light maintenance duties such as resident call light system, light bulbs, TV hookups and remotes, HVAC, etc.
  • Place maintenance and IT work orders in computerized systems.
  • Remain stationed at front desk, answering telephone and monitoring traffic in and out of the building until relieved.
  • Conduct walk-in potential admission tours as necessary.
  • Check purses, pockets, and bags for suspicious items upon request.
  • Attend all departmental meetings and in-services and facility-required in-services.
  • Wear departmental uniform on a daily basis.
  • Keep New York State certification updated.
  • Assist in monitoring the physical conditions of residents as necessary (River Edge Manor specific).
  • Deliver Saturday morning newspapers to residents’ rooms (River Edge Manor specific).
  • Assist in maintaining the environmental needs of the building as necessary (River Edge Manor specific).
  • Respond to both medical (R-care) and fire alarms at River Edge Manor and notify REM Executive Director.
