About The Position

The Security Officer position is a full-time role located at the Main Campus, working day shifts. The role involves protecting, serving, and assisting patients, staff, and guests of Firelands Regional Health System (FRHS). Responsibilities include responding to emergency codes, de-escalating distressed individuals (including those with behavioral and psychiatric emergencies), and restraining individuals when necessary. The officer will operate tools such as restraints, sprays, shields, and handcuffs, and monitor individuals for unsafe actions or behaviors. Acute hearing and vision are necessary to detect and react quickly to movement. The role also involves monitoring medical center buildings and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment, handling dangerous ordinances, and potentially being in contact with blood, body fluids, and deceased persons with appropriate personal protective equipment. Additionally, the officer will investigate incidents, accidents, or complaints on medical center property and facilitate the safe takeoff and landing of medical aircraft.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
  • Must hold or obtain International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security officer certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire.
  • Must have BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 5 years.
  • Must have CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 2 years.
  • Must have non-violent crisis intervention training upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 2 years.
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy.
  • Must be able to safely drive during day time and night time hours without restriction.
  • Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
  • Maintain certification in handcuffing, defensive tactics, Turtle Shield and use of the Reflex Protect defensive device as appropriate.
  • Must have a mobile phone.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior military, law enforcement or security experience preferred.
  • Ohio Peace Officers Training Association certification may substitute for International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security officer certification requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Handles dangerous ordinances (e.g. firearms, narcotics) when needed.
  • May be in contact with blood, body fluids and deceased persons with appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Investigates incidents, accidents or complaints on medical center property.
  • Facilitates the safe takeoff and landing of medical aircraft.
