About The Position

The Security Sergeant serves as a front-line supervisor, managing and evaluating security officers and their performance. The role responds to escalated, critical, and major incidents; reviews the effectiveness of assignments; and helps ensure the safety and security of Jefferson employees, students, visitors, staff, and property. The Sergeant also works to mitigate workplace violence in accordance with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements. The position patrols Jefferson buildings and campus, conducts checks of sensitive and high-risk locations, monitors officers on shift, and addresses security concerns and conduct issues. It reviews incident reports for accuracy and completeness and ensures reports are submitted as required. Duties also include security details, VIP protection, crowd control, escorts, coordination with law enforcement, advising crime victims about reporting options, and assisting the Emergency Response Team during serious or life-threatening events. The role must be available to work all shifts and rotate between shifts according to organizational needs.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
At least 3 years of experience as a security or police officer, preferably in a healthcare environment, and/or an associate degree or higher with a Criminal Justice or related concentration, or two years of law enforcement or military service.
Act 235 certification required in Pennsylvania.
Valid driver's license required to work at certain Jefferson locations.
Must be available to work all shifts and rotate between shifts in accordance with organizational needs.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
Knowledge of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), fire alarm systems, and access control.
Security or police officer experience in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

Direct, assess, and evaluate security officers, monitoring their on-shift performance and ensuring they are on post and meeting expectations.
Respond to escalated, critical, major, and serious campus incidents, take appropriate action, and debrief with relevant stakeholders.
Review current assignments to support efficient use of resources.
Patrol Jefferson buildings and campus, conduct unscheduled checks of sensitive and high-risk areas, and report security concerns to the Lieutenant in writing.
Address problematic situations and communicate officer conduct problems to management in accordance with established policy and performance standards.
Review security incident reports for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, help officers meet reporting standards, and ensure reports are submitted as required.
Provide security details, VIP protection, crowd control for special events, and on-campus escorts.
Coordinate with the Jefferson Police Department and other law enforcement agencies regarding events, criminal offenses, and complaints; testify in court when subpoenaed.
Advise crime victims on due process and ways to report crimes to the appropriate authorities.
Assist as a member of the Emergency Response Team during fires, bomb threats, explosions, and other life-threatening or crime-related situations.
Help maintain the safety and security of Jefferson employees, students, visitors, staff, and property and mitigate workplace violence.
